President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign accused the Democratic Party of having a “full-scale meltdown” following the contentious primary debate that saw candidates clashing on almost every policy issue.
“The Democrat Party is in the midst of a full-scale meltdown,” Trump 2020 national press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement. “Americans are watching the party of JFK be torn apart by anti-job socialists and anti-worker globalists who want to control every aspect of Americans’ lives.”
“This train wreck is nothing compared to what they would do to our country. None of these candidates will be able to go toe to toe with President Trump in November,” she added.
The six top Democratic primary contenders spent two hours throwing haymakers at each other on the debate stage Wednesday in Las Vegas.
Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who made his first appearance in a Democratic debate amid a rise in national poll numbers, was attacked repeatedly for his record on “stop-and-frisk,” allegations of sexism at his company, and stances he took over the years that went against Democratic policies.
President Trump, who held a rally in Phoenix, Arizona during the debate, tweeted out his disapproval of Bloomberg’s debate performance.
“Mini Mike Bloomberg’s debate performance tonight was perhaps the worst in the history of debates, and there have been some really bad ones,” he wrote. “He was stumbling, bumbling and grossly incompetent. If this doesn’t knock him out of the race, nothing will. Not so easy to do what I did!”
