Newborn girl kidnapped by ‘fake nurse’ in hospital found safe and well in Mexico

A newborn baby was kidnapped from a hospital just hours after she was born in Zapopan in western Mexico by a woman posing as a nurse.

The baby girl, who has not yet been named, was found abandoned on the street four miles from the Occidente General Hospital where she as born.

Just a few hours after she was born on Wednesday afternoon her mother was told by the imposter nurse that her baby needed to be taken to the hospital nursery.

It wasn't until later, when the mother asked to see the baby, that staff realised the child was missing as there was no record of the child having been taken to the nursery.

The kidnapper was spotted on CCTV wearing the fake scrubs leaving the hospital with the infant being carried in a green bag slung over her shoulder.

After an extensive search by local authorities the missing newborn was found on Thursday morning in the Zapopan neighbourhood of Arcos de Zapopan after residents looking inside the green bag she had been abandoned in.

Upon being found she was returned to the hospital and reunited with her parents.

The baby was monitored by hospital staff to ensure she was well and was able to recover from her ordeal on her first day alive.

The state governor Enrique Alfaro shared on Twitter that the baby was in "perfect condition."

He tweeted: 'The baby that was stolen yesterday from Occidente General Hospital is back in her mother's arms today, and it is a reason for joy and gratitude to each officer and person who made it possible."
