Met Office issues sixteen flood warnings as Brits showered with heavy rainfall

    The Environment Agency has issued 16 flood alerts in preparation of a heavy rainstorm set to take hold of Britain in the coming days.

    Warnings for local groundwater flooding have been imposed in Southern parts of England.

    Disruption to travel is expected to occur, while the likes of land, roads and some properties are to experience some flooding.

    Seven flood alerts have been issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency who also issued an additional three flood warnings.

    The Met Office has warned that heavy rain will affect western hills with much of Scotland expected to face similar unsettling weather conditions.

    The national weather service has forecasted periods of heavy rain to strike over the weekend while the 16 areas which carry a flood warning include regions of Dorset.

    The Met Office's long-term forecast has suggested that high pressure will take hold of the UK in the coming days, with stronger winds and rain expected to strike.

    In preparation for potential floods, the Environment Agency has urged residents in affected areas to be wary of flood warnings and to get insurance documents in order as well as having a bag of medicine on stand-by, should anything catastrophic happen.

    Those in affected areas have been urged to turn off their gas, water and electricity.

    They've also been told to prepare sufficiently by moving the likes of family, pets, cars and other items upstairs so that they're away from danger.

    Following advice from emergency services and attempting to keep yourself and your family safe has been the consistent messages relayed to residents who could be at danger of the rainstorm.
