Meghan Markle's father has slammed her "stupid stunt" on the Ellen show and said it made him "wince" as he tuned him from home in Mexico.

Thomas Markle, 77, made the remarks after he tuned in to watch his daughter chat with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres this week.

But he said although he choose to view his daughter, he wasn't expecting a 20-minute cringe-fest that saw Meghan take part in a series of pranks on the show.

During the show, she took part in a skit which saw her do squats and was told to say silly things at a market stall, reports The Sunday Mirror.

The Duchess, 40, was directed to follow orders as Ellen told her to say: "Let mummy taste some. My boo (Harry) loves hot sauce."

She also stunned market-workers after she pulled out a baby bottle and sucked on the teat as well as acting like a cat after being told to wear dress-up ears.

In response, her father told the Sunday Mirror that her behaviour was "embarrassing for the royal family" and probably to "everyone in the UK too".

"She’s putting herself out there as a duchess but I’ve never seen a duchess behave this way, doing stupid stunts," he said.

Back in the studio, Meghan spoke about being a struggling actress in her 20s and doing auditions at a Los Angeles studio. She said her car had faulty doors that meant she had to climb in and out through the boot.

But Thomas disputed her claims and said: "The doors worked fine on that vehicle until the day she got rid of it."

He went on to say that he was "disappointed" that she didn't mention how he had supported her through the start of her acting career.

"I hooked her up with a director on the General Hospital TV show and that got her a couple of lines on one of the shows which got her a union card," he said.

"It’s really difficult to get a job without a card so that was crucial. I paid for the card too. I’ve been disappointed all this hasn’t been acknowledged."

On the show, the duchess also handed out copies of her children's book The Bench to audience members, while a picture flashed up on the screen of her showing Archie feeding chickens while wearing jeans, T-shirt and yellow Peppa Pig Hunter wellies.

Her father said he had read the book and that the "only thing interesting for a kid in that book is the picture of the dog on the cover".

  • Meghan and Harry hit by 'devastating' backlash as France turns on under fire couple

Thomas and Meghan fell out after he collided with a US photo agency to stage shots of him preparing for her wedding. In the end, he did not attend.

When a letter from Meghan to her father was leaked she sued a newspaper for breach of privacy and won.

But at an appeal hearing this month Meghan apologised for not telling a judge about emails showing her attempts to influence a book about her and Harry.

Following her latest interview, her father said his son in Law should "get a job delivering newspapers" as "all he seems to do is ride his bike".

He also went on to say he "feels sorry" for the Queen after hearing that Harry and Meghan may not return to the UK for Christmas and said his relationship with his daughter "went downhill when she met Harry".

"It’s sort of ridiculous we can’t and it’s all down to bad tempers. But for an old man, I’m doing OK. I’ve got a bad heart, but I am doing all right," he added.
