A young man aged in his 30s has died after being knifed to death near a crematorium.

The tragic incident has sparked a murder investigation as cops launch a hunt for at least one suspect.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Barton, Oxford, shortly before 6pm on Friday evening.

They had been called to reports that man had been knifed.

The victim, who detectives say was aged in his 30s, sadly died of his injuries at the scene despite the best efforts of the paramedics.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Following the stabbing, no arrests have yet been made, say police.

Thames Valley Police have launched a murder investigation and are urgently appealing for witnesses or those who may have dashcam footage to come forward.

Detective Inspector Nick Hind, senior investigating officer of Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit, said he believed the man and suspect were known to each other.

Mr Hind said: “Tragically, as a result of an incident this evening, a man has suffered fatal injuries.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim who has died.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are working to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened.

“We have a large scene-watch in place in the Bayswater Road area of Oxford and the adjacent park.

“Bayswater Road is currently closed from the crematorium to Waynflete Road, and this area, and the park is likely to remain cordoned off for a considerable period of time while our investigation continues.

“At this early stage of our investigation, we have not made any arrests, and I would appeal to anybody who has any information or who witnessed the incident to please contact the force on 101, quoting incident reference 1694 of 8 October.

“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam, please could you check this and contact the police if it has captured anything that can assist us.

“There will be a significant police presence in the area in the coming days, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns or information to please speak to officers in the area.

“I understand that this incident will cause great concern in the local community, but at this early stage of the investigation, I believe that the victim and offender were known to each other, and I do not believe there to be a wider threat to the local community.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure people that we have launched a thorough investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.”

Anyone with any information should contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting incident reference 1694 of October 8.
