PROMINENT businessman and American labor union leader, Jimmy Hoffa, disappeared in 1975, never to be found.
Through the years, leads presented themselves to investigators, but didn't lead to any discoveries, until now.
What happened to Jimmy Hoffa?
Jimmy Hoffa's disappearance has plagued investigators for decades. The businessman rose to prominence as the leader of labor unions, paving the way for the national freight-hauling agreement but he is reported to have had his fair share of enemies.
When Hoffa was imprisoned in 1967 for bribery in a jury case, was sentenced to 13 years, but he was pardoned by former President Richard Nixon in 1971.
It wasn't until four years later that Hoffa garnered nationwide attention when he disappeared without a trace from a public place in Michigan on July 30, 1975.
His family reported him missing the following day, but he was never found.
Conspiracy theories surfaced over the last four decades, one of the most common of theories was Hoffa was murdered by his colleague and union official, Frank Sheeran.
However, it was known that Hoffa had an unstable relationship with the New Jersey Mafia boss, Anthony Provenzano. In July 1975, Hoffa traveled to Michigan to meet with Provenzano but after arriving, he disappeared.
Investigators followed tips over the years from a search under a swimming pool to a farm site, but Hoffa's body was never uncovered.
Have investigators found Jimmy Hoffa's body?
New information came to light recently after a deathbed confession from a landfill worker, Paul Cappola, who confessed to his son, Frank, in 2008.
His son came forward and told his father's story to Fox Nation before he died in 2008. He said his father told him he had buried Hoffa's body in a New Jersey landfill.
According to Cappola's son, his father was ordered by a group of men, who did not identify themselves, to kill Hoffa and bury his body underground inside a steel drum.
"He was very upset about it his whole life," Frank Cappola said. "He was told to do it. My father was not a wise guy or a tough guy. He was a businessman.
"But he had to be put in that position because if you don't do it, they are going to do it to you."
The search for Hoffa's body is now underway as investigators dig 15 feet below ground at the landfill. Fox Nation reported the FBI was awarded to begin digging in search of Hoffa's remains.
Fox Nation revealed the information in the series, Riddle: The Search for James R. Hoffa, claiming Hoffa was killed in Detroit, Michigan, and then shipped to New Jersey in a 55-gallon drum before being buried at the New Jersey landfill, Moscato's Dump.
"I would bet my life on it that he is still there," Frank Cappola told Fox Nation in 2020. "This is going to lead up to finding him."
Was there a movie about Jimmy Hoffa?
The Irishman, starring Robert De Niro, was released in 2019 focusing on Hoffa's longtime friend Frank Sheeran who was a truck-driver-turned hitman.
Over the years, the conspiracy theory arose that Sheeran was involved in Hoffa's murder, leading to the creation of the film.
The Irishman is available to stream on Netflix.
