Hundreds of Brits in mad dash back from Ibiza and Menorca to avoid quarantine

Brits have been scrambling back to the UK from Ibiza before the Balearic Islands are moved to an amber Covid destination.

It comes as the Government said the islands, which include Majorca Menorca and Formentera, will move from the green to amber list from 4am tomorrow.

It means anyone over 18 arrives after that time, and who isn't fully vaccinated, will need to quarantine for 10 days when they come home.

Dozens of travellers cut short their sun-worshipping and were seen arriving back at UK airports after the move, which comes just 15 days after the islands were put into the green category, writes The Mirror.

Revellers were reportedly seen queuing at a Covid testing clinic in the Ibiza resort region of San Antonio to get PCR checks on Friday, with just two days left to get home and beat the quarantine.

Palma de Mallorca airport was pictured rammed yesterday as Brits began flocking in hopes of getting a last-minute flight home.

It has been a week of holiday chaos with France suddenly plunged under special quarantine rules. The government said travellers arriving in the UK must now quarantine for 10 days at home upon arrival, despite the country remaining on the amber list.

From Monday, fully vaccinated travellers can return from amber list countries without the requirement to quarantine. However France has been exempted from the rule-change.

There is speculation our Gallic neighbours home could be added to the red list in the next round of official traffic light travel alert system changes.

The summer holiday travel chaos has left the government facing accusations of 'flip-flopping' as holidaymakers are forced to cancel plans, leaving many out of pocket.

And the more than half-a-million people pinged to isolate by the NHS Covid app in a single week during the during the summer holiday season has added to the travel woes.

Travel leaders have slammed the system, as bosses fear a summer of uncertainty will cause Brits to avoid overseas travel in another blow to the devastated industry.
