GORILLA mum Kala proudly cuddles her latest baby a year after her first newborn died.
The youngster — who has yet to be named — was born naturally on August 19, much to the relief of the keepers at her zoo.
Kala had to have an emergency caesarean in September last year when it was found her first baby was being blocked by her placenta.
After the difficult birth the baby girl did not thrive and died a few days later.
But Kala and dad Jock now have another child at Bristol Zoo.
Lynsey Bugg, curator of mammals, said: “We are all thrilled.
"There is something very special about a baby gorilla.
"They are such a charismatic species.”
Bristol Zoo Gardens is home to a family of seven western lowland gorillas.
