Erick Morillo dead at 49 – Award-winning DJ known for 1990s classic I Like To Move It dies in Miami Beach

LEGENDARY DJ Erick Morillo has died at the age of 49, according to reports.

The disc jockey from Colombia was best known for 1993 electro-dance hit I Like To Move It which he put out under the name Reel 2 Real.


US site TMZ reported his body was found on Tuesday morning in Miami Beach.

The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear.

His death comesjust a month after he was arrested in Miami for sexual battery charges. He was due to appear in court on Friday.

Morillo denied the charges against him, but a rape kit tested positive for his DNA, according to Miami's Local10 News.

SEXUAL BATTERY CHARGE

Morillo was a three-time winner of the DJ Awards’ Best House DJ and a three-time winner of Best International DJ.

He was also a regular performer in Ibiza.

Morillo was arrested after a woman claimed to have been sexually assaulted by him at his Miami Beach residence in December, 2019.

Detectives say that Morillo and the accuser were both working as DJs at a private party on Star Island.

After the event, Morillo and the accuser went to his home on La Gorce Drive for drinks, along with another woman.

The victim told detectives that Morillo “made several advances towards her, some sexual in nature, but she refused all of his attempts," according to the arrest report.

She also mentioned having been feeling intoxicated and found an empty room in the home to sleep by herself. 

She reported "waking up nude on the bed, with Mr. Morillo standing on the side of the bed also nude.”
