A young woman who feared a break-up with her boyfriend threw her four-day-old baby into a canal, foreign media reports.
Alexia Lopez, 18, allegedly said she "didn't want the baby" and wanted to save her relationship with Jose Clemente, her boyfriend of four months.
Chilling CCTV footage from last Saturday, November 21, is said to capture Lopez wandering on a road before her 28-year-old boyfriend walks up to her.
Several vehicles are seen driving past the couple before the young mum throws her son, who is wrapped in a towel, into the waterway at around 5.45pm in Huehuetango, Guatemala.
The pair quickly turn around and walk away.
According to local media Publinews, Lopez returned home and confessed to her mother later that night.
The frantic mother notified the neighbourhood's voluntary fire department, which launched a frantic search before her grandson's lifeless body was pulled out from the canal.

The teem mum told local media that her boyfriend is not the father of the baby and he "did not want his family to know of the baby".
