A British woman who married a double killer is moving to the US to be near to him, despite the fact he will be in jail until 2034.

Naomi Wise, 26, fell in love with Victor Oquendo while the pair were penpals as he served his 24 year sentence.

The 30-year-old has the nickname ‘Animal’ and has already served 10 years for shooting two men in a gangland hit and playing a part in three armed robberies.

The couple first got in touch when Naomi was a trainee councillor looking to become a mentor.

They quickly moved to telephone calls after writing and fell in love, with Naomi claiming the pair tied the knot in a jailhouse wedding.

She currently spends around £270 a month on ringing the US and sending her lover emails as it is $20 to send 200 messages to Oquendo’s jail account.

She took to TikTok to announce that she has decided to make the move across the pond to be nearer to him.

Meanwhile she has also started a petition to have Oquendo granted clemency for his crimes.

The petition currently has over 5000 signatures.

It reads: "I believe Victor should be granted clemency, not only because his case was unjust but he's also a 30-year-old man now who has learnt from his mistakes and wants to be given a second chance at life.

"He is extremely remorseful for that act he committed, he has already served 11 years in prison.

"If the good behaviour act is approved he will serve an extra six or seven on top of that.

"I believe that he has done his time and paid his debt back to society and should be given a second chance.

"He is a completely changed man, he is 30-years-old now, he's not an 18-year-old boy who is in a gang he really wants a second chance at life and to give back to society."

Speaking previously to The Mirror, Naomi said: "Victor is the man I want to be with. From the beginning, I knew it was different.”

Conjugal visits are not permitted in Michigan meaning the pair are unable to have any physical contact, however Naomi says they are very “emotionally connected”.

"Sex is not a deal-breaker for me. I’m happy to stay faithful,” she explained.

She added: "And we do try to be intimate on the phone when we can. We find moments to have intimacy together. We’re also in contact with each other throughout the day and Victor is such a good listener.”

She said her family know about the long distance relationship and admits they are concerned, adding: "I know it will take time for them to come round.”

Naomi said that her husband kept his dark past a a secret for the first two weeks they were talking.

She described: “I was shocked. It was a lot to take in. I wanted to know how he felt about what he’d done. If he didn’t care that would have been a red flag, but he’s extremely remorseful.

“He struggles to live with himself and has night terrors. It said a lot to me about the person he really is.”
