This is the first picture of 14-year-old Fares Maatou who was allegedly stabbed to death outside a pizza shop in Newham, east London.

Fares Maatou was allegedly attacked in Barking Road, E16, shortly after 3.30pm on Friday, April 23, 2021.

Police arrived on the scene to find the teen suffering from stab injuries and despite their best efforts, Fares was pronounced dead shortly after 4.30pm.

The Met believes Fares was attacked with a large bladed item, and two boys, 14 and 15, are currently in police custody on suspicion of murder, with a third, a 15-year-old, arrested in connection with the incident.

DCI Perry Benton, Specialist Crime, confirmed the arrests, adding that the force is currently piecing together a picture of what happened.

Mr Benton said that Fares's family are "absolutely devastated" over the "senseless killing" and said the force will support them over the "weeks, months, and years ahead."

He said: "Fares’ family are, of course, absolutely devastated. I have assured them of my total commitment to bringing to justice those responsible for this senseless killing. They will be supported by specialist officers at every stage of what will be a terrible ordeal for them in the weeks, months, and years ahead."
