Blind woman calls police over missing husband, 76 – police find him shot dead

A murder investigation is underway after a blind woman reported her husband missing – but he was dead in his bed.

William Robert Lang Jr, 76, was reported to the police after his visually impaired wife claimed she had not spoken to him since the afternoon of the previous day.

She told police that this was "unusual", Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana said.

Police visited the couple's home on Wednesday after 6pm, and found no cars missing, but a window had been broken.

A search inside of the property led to the shocking discovery of Mr Lang, who had been shot multiple times.

The police have yet to explain how the woman failed to hear the gunshots or find the body, but a murder investigation has been launched, and an autopsy has taken place.

An autopsy ruled the cause of death to be a homicide.

Sheriff Stuart Wright said: "Our investigators are working tirelessly in an effort to arrest the individual or individuals involved in the murder of Mr Lang.

"We extend our sympathy to the Lang family."

Facebook posts indicate that Mr Lang made an unsuccessful run for the US Senate as a conservative in 2010.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information to call the Sheriff’s Office’s criminal investigations division and ask to speak with Capt. Darrel Winder, Detective Amber Shirley, Detective Sgt. Jared Kilpatrick or Detective Sgt Craig LaCour.

Last week, the same police force was dealing with a train vs car crash, which resulted in three people being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Although no reason as to how the crash occurred has been given, photos from the scene show a car ripped to pieces having collided with the haulage train.

It appears to have got caught in between two carriages, with the front being ripped clean off.
