The Witcher season two will be arriving on Netflix before the end of 2021 and fans are already expressing their excitement. On July 9, a trailer for the new series was dropped and it revealed the official release date for the next outing. has all you need to know about when the second season will arrive.

When is The Witcher season 2 out?

The fantasy drama series is based on the Polish book of the same name and the first season debuted in December 2019.

The series is set in a medieval location known as The Continent and features main protagonists Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan).

Season two will be made up of eight episodes, and a release date has been given for December 17.

Netflix has unveiled some first-look photos during a WitcherCon event and the new season will see Geralt train protégé Ciri.

The pair finally united, having been brought together by fate, and they are determined to fight monsters together.

The update was bittersweet for fans as they realised the new season would not be the same without Yennefer, who disappeared (Anya Chalotra).

Still, they were excited to learn Jaskier (Joey Batey) will be back to entertain once more.

Fans were also treated to the episode list for seven of the eight instalments, and the titles are as follows:

Episode one – A Grain of Truth

Episode two – Kaer Morhen

Episode three – What Is Lost

Episode four – Redanian Intelligence

Episode five – Turn Your Back

Episode six – Dear Friend

Episode seven – Voleth Meir

An inside look video has been released and it features an interview with Yennefer actress Chalotra.

She said: “I’m very happy with season one because it was so well-received and so many people contacted me telling me how much they loved it.”

“We were nervous because obviously, we loved it. We put blood, sweat and tears into it, but I’m so glad the audience loved it as well.

“This season everyone worked their a** off to make this happen.

Princess Ciri actress Allan added: “I was thrown into season one, I was very new to it all and really had to just learn on the job.

“I actually do have a lot of lovely memories from season one, I remember I just had this love of shooting episode one.

“I feel like this season you really see her grow. I’m just excited for people to see everyone’s hard work.”

An official synopsis for the second instalment has been given and it says: “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

“While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: The mysterious power she possesses inside.”

News of the second season arrived in November 2019 and production was due to begin in early 2020.

Filming for the new season was impacted heavily by the coronavirus pandemic and it disrupted on numerous occasions.

Production officially finished in April 2021 and fans have since been treated to some early images.

On hearing the news of the official release date, they took to Twitter to express their excitement.

One fan said: “My heart just jumped out after I realized there’s a release date next to that beautiful work of art!!! Witcher S2 is coming!!!” [Sic]

Another said: “Finallyyyy I’d been looking forward this moment for about 1 year.” [Sic]

The official Twitter account for the series had teased: “Destiny has revealed itself. Prepare for The Witcher Season 2, premiering December 17 on @netflix.”

The Witcher season 2 will air on Netflix on December 17.
