Kicking off on New Year’s Day (January 1, 2022), judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan will be putting their detective skills to the test in an all-new series of The Masked Singer on ITV. Among the line-up of disguised famous faces in 2022 include the likes of Panda, Bagpipes, Traffic Cone and Firework. However, there’s one costume in particular that has caught the eye of some fans before the competition has even kicked off – Mushroom.

Mushroom is just one of the quirky and eye-catching costumes on display for the third season of The Masked Singer UK.

As well as Mushroom, Firework, Traffic Cone, Panda and Bagpipes, ITV viewers will get to see the likes of Chandelier, Lionfish, Doughnuts, Rockhopper, Poodle, Robobunny and Snow Leopard.

A handful of clue packages have already been released before the premiere and as such, a number of guesses have flooded in as to which celebrities will be behind the mask.

And Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays fame and a former I’m A Celebrity…I’m Get Out of Here! star has emerged as a likely candidate.

There are already a handful of hints which could link Shaun to the fungi-inspired character.

Mushroom has already popped in the US version of the singing competition where he was unveiled as singer Aloe Blacc.

But the similar career path isn’t all that has linked Shaun to the disguise worn by Aloe.

While seemingly a bit of stretch, the wild flora has also been linked to Shaun’s time on I’m A Celeb.

Putting forward their predictions, one Masked Singer fan named Shaun outright as their guess for Mushroom.

Twitter user @Brekkietweets stated: “#MaskedSingerUK predictions based solely on costumes – because that’s how it works right…Doughnuts – Ben Shepherd, Panda – Kaya Scodelario, Bagpipes – Susan Boyle, Poodle – George W Bush, Insect – Steve Backshall…

“Robot Rabbit – Liz Bonin, Chandalier – Sia, Pufferfish – Ellen, Traffic Cone – Ken Jeong, Snow, Leopard – Leona Lewis, Mushrooms – Shaun Ryder, Firework – Katy Perry.

“Some logic to all of them. Doubt I’ve got them all right!” (sic)

And fellow Masked Singer fan Kay Aitch simply shared their excitement at seeing Mushroom in action.

They said: “I’m really looking forward to this. Love the Mushroom, Chandelier, Snow Leopard & Bagpipes costumes especially. #maskedsingeruk.

“Just a bit of innocent fun and frivolity with plenty of colour and good music to put a smile on my face.”

But if Shaun is unveiled as the Mushroom, will he be able to replicate the success of last year’s winner Joss Stone?

The singer was crowned last year’s victor after impressing in costume as Sausage.

The hit ITV show also crowned Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts as its first-ever winner.

Nicola won the show’s debut series after wowing the judges week in and week out as Queen Bee.

The Masked Singer returns to ITV on January 1, 2022 at 7pm.
