For the final part of Friday night’s Gogglebox, the cast caught up on the news as it was revealed Prince Philip was returning home after a short stay in hospital. Many of the cast were thrilled to hear he was leaving in good health and would be reunited with the Queen. However Giles’ comments about the Duke of Edinburgh did not impress his wife Mary.

As an image of Prince Philip was seen on the news, Mary commented: “Look he’s still handsome.”

“He looks dead happy there don’t he?” Pete Sandiford added.

The newsreader continued: “Little has been said by the palace about the reason for his hospital stay.”

“He looks a bit different doesn’t he?” Mary went on to remark.

Giles added: “He looks a bit reptilian.” Later in the show, he remarked: “Let’s just hope he doesn’t choke on a lozenge.”

“Oh stop being nasty!” Mary snapped as Giles protested. “Why would he even have a lozenge?”

Giles hit back: “You know when you get to old age nutty, there is all sorts of hazards.”

Those watching at home weren’t too impressed with Giles’ comments with one writing on Twitter: ““He looks reptilian” PLEASE #gogglebox.”

Another added: “Did Giles just say Prince Philip looks reptilian? #Gogglebox.”

A third posted: “#Gogglebox I don’t find it funny people talking untoward about Prince Philip #vile.”

However, some found their disagreement hilarious with one writing: “He looks a bit Reptilian.. Giles observation on Prince Philip… #Gogglebox.”

It came after Jenny left best friend Lee gobsmacked with her comment about Bridgeton actor Regé-Jean Page.

Regé-Jean appeared on CBeebies Bedtime Stories for a Mother’s Day Special and the families were keen to catch up.

Regé-Jean read Rain Before Rainbows by Smriti Halls and David Litchfield which is about a girl and her companion fox who travel together from a place of loss and despair, through uncertain times, towards the hope of colour, light and life.

As Regé-Jean told viewers of CBeebies Bedtime Stories he hoped they would have a good day, the families were quick to respond.

Shirley Griffiths sighed: “If you were there love it would be a fantastic day,” as husband Dave shot her an unimpressed look.

“Have colourful rainbow dreams,” Regé-Jean continued as Jenny laughed: “I’ll be having wet dreams never mind rainbow dreams watching you.”

“Jenny!” Lee exclaimed shocked at his friend’s remark, with her mouth open wide.

Regé-Jean continued: “Full of hope and adventure. Goodnight!”

Viewers loved the reactions and posted on Twitter with one writing: “You can always rely on #Gogglebox to make your day better it’s what’s needed at the moment.”

Another added: “Crying tonite at this, comments are on point and hilarious especially about Rege! #Gogglebox.” (sic)

“The reaction to the bedtime story on #Gogglebox is priceless,” someone else shared.

Gogglebox airs Friday on Channel 4 at 9pm.
