Riverdale cast: Who will play Veronica Lodge’s husband? Broadchurch actor confirmed

Riverdale: The CW tease season five episodes in promo

Riverdale season five has almost arrived with the new series premiering on The CW on Wednesday, January 20. Fans across the world will then get to enjoy the first episode in the season the following day, Thursday, January 21, when it is released on Netflix. But while viewers have grown accustomed to the teenage antics in the drama, Riverdale won’t be the same when it returns.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale.

Riverdale series four was cut short as the drama wasn’t able to complete filming before they were forced to stop because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This meant the final three episodes didn’t air, leaving various storylines up in the air.

The unfinished plots included the identity of the mysterious voyager and Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) finding out their partners Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) had kissed.

These scenes were going to be included as part of the last three episodes but instead, they will form the first few in season five.

But after these instalments are shown, Riverdale is going to be launched into the future with a seven-year time jump.

Last year, actresses Reinhart and Mendes both confirmed there would be a time jump which would see the Core Four in their early 20s.

Plenty is going to have changed during this time as the friends would have left school, already been to their various colleges and started work.

So far, it is unclear if any of the gang remain in touch with one another but one plot which has been confirmed is that Veronica will be married.

Sadly, she won’t have tied the knot with high school sweetheart Archie but someone who is far more similar to her ruthless father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).

Who will play Veronica Lodge’s husband?

Following the time jump, Veronica is going to be married to a businessman called Chad Gekko.

This is clearly a nod to the classic 1980s film Wall Street starring Michael Douglas in the lead role of Gordan Gekko.

Chad is described as a “controlling” and “jealous” husband who works on Wall Street.

When the creators were still trying to find the right actor for the role, the casting sheet said this about Chad’s character: “Though charming, his failed Ponzi scheme and shady deals with Hiram reveal his moral duplicity, putting Chad’s life in danger.”

Now, it has been revealed that actor Chris Mason will be the man to portray Veronica’s husband in season five.

In the early days of Mason’s career, he featured in The Fades, Lightfields, Vampire Academy and World War.

Mason starred alongside actor Tom Hardy as Ronnie Hart in Legend, a film about legendary gangsters the Kray Twins.

Fans in the UK though may best recognise him for portraying villain Leo Humphires in the third season of ITV drama Broadchurch.

Mason featured in spin-off series Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, as well as Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story as a young version of Daniel Broderick.

Besides from Riverdale, Mason will also star in two new series this year.

These are called The Brides and Triangle but so far, according to IMDB, no release date has been announced for either just yet.

Riverdale season 5 will start on Thursday, January 21, on Netflix.
