Charlie Stayt and Louise Minchin fronted BBC Breakfast on Wednesday morning and updated viewers on the ongoing situation in Afghanistan. The pair welcomed Priti Patel onto the programme to discuss the evacuation of Afghanistan nationals from the country as the Taliban takes control. However, many viewers were frustrated by the interview and took to Twitter to hit out at the politician.
Patel spoke about resettling Afghanistan refugees in the UK, detailing the government’s plans.
“We are saying 5,000 in the first year which will be on top of the work that we’re already doing to bring other Afghan nationals out of Afghanistan.
“But importantly, we have to be able to bring people over to the united kingdom and resettle them,” Patel commented.
However, viewers fumed at the interview taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One Twitter user wrote: “Having to turn #BBCBreakfast OFF …they’ve got that smug faced Priti on.”
Meanwhile, others accused the politician of repeating herself throughout the interview.
“Did @pritipatel actually say anything of substance or did she just waffle around in circles saying nothing? @BBCBreakfast #bbcbreakfast,” one questioned.
Another agreed: “How many times can #patel say “colleagues and counterparts” and “fluid situation” in one interview #BBCBreakfast.”
