Piers Morgan outraged by Dominic West's Covid-19 comments to Kate Garraway

Piers Morgan has hit out at Dominic West after he told Kate Garraway on today’s Good Morning Britain he ‘leapt for joy’ over Donald Trump’s coronavirus.

Dominic shared his controversial thoughts when he was asked whether he had any ‘instinctive’ reactions to the news of the President and First Lady’s positive Covid-19 test results.

He told Kate, whose husband Derek Draper is still in hospital recovering from the virus after being admitted in March and placed in an induced coma, that he ‘did slightly leap in the air with joy’.

The actor continued: ‘He said, “It is what it is”, and I think the phrase is what goes around comes around. I just hope it doesn’t interrupt him getting elected out of office, that’s all.’

An unimpressed Piers slammed Dominic’s remark made to Kate, and penned on Twitter: ‘Imagine telling someone whose own husband is lying in a coma from coronavirus that you ‘jumped for joy’ when you heard others had caught the disease?’

Earlier this week, it was claimed Kate’s husband’s battle is now ‘the longest of any Covid-19 patient in the UK’.

Kate has been vocal about her partner’s struggle and recently announced that while she sympathises with people growing frustrated by the pandemic, she also feels the urge to show those flouting the rules a picture of Derek in his current state.

‘I think if you haven’t been directly touched by it, you haven’t seen the devastation, but your life has been devastated, your livelihood, your ability to feel a sense of joy, then, of course, I think you’re going to get frustrated,’ she said.

‘But, it does make me tempted to show them a picture of Derek in his current state and say you don’t want this in your life.’

Meanwhile, Trump confirmed on Twitter that he and the First Lady Melania Trump have both contracted coronavirus.

‘Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,’ he wrote. ‘We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
