Neighbours has aired some pretty wacky storylines over the years.
Just in recent months we’ve seen Paul return with a baby that doesn’t belong to the Tanakas, the exploration of a poly relationship involving Amy, and plenty more.
But what can fans expect from the Australian soap in 2022?
From serial killer clues to Kyle’s potentially tragic fate as he battles cancer, fans have plenty of wishes and wants for next year’s season.
Though the Channel 5 soap will take a brief break over the Christmas period – ending on a huge cliffhanger – it will be back on our screens come next year.
Here are some of the top fan predictions for 2022.
Kyle’s tragic fate
Kyle Canning hasn’t had it easy in Ramsay Street – from going temporarily blind after a solar eclipse to being blackmailed over the car sales event.
But his latest storyline could be the most devastating yet, as fans are predicting a sad end for the character.
Kyle was diagnosed with cancer after participating in a testicular cancer testing booth – and he’s struggling on whether to tell his family the news.
Leaning on Roxy, it’s certainly set to be a difficult few months for the pair – but could Kyle be killed off at the end of the storyline?
Some worried fans think so, as one fretted on social media: "Is Kyle going to end up dying?"
"I actually felt that Kyle was going to eventually move on from this, but Roxy proposing is making me think he’s going to die at some point in the next year…" another posted.
While someone else worried: "I was confident until that marriage proposal. Feel like it's going to end with them getting married while Kyle is on his deathbed and he dies straight after."
"It does have an ominous feel to it," someone else agreed, "but I bet it will be a wedding to remember!"
Terese death fears
The Christmas cliffhanger is looking like a dramatic one for 2021, as Terese struggles for her life dangling over a chasm.
Spoilers have revealed that her life is clearly in danger – and it’s all brought on by her relapse into alcoholism caused by her split from Paul Robinson.
When Terese’s family discover she’s spending Christmas by herself after insisting she wanted to be left alone, they begin a search – but Harlow is the one who finds her, on the Lassiters rooftop.
Harlow insists Glen is up to no good when it comes to Terese and Paul, and tries to show Terese the report she’s dug up on him – but, drunk out of her mind, Terese tosses it off the roof.
But in the process she loses her balance, and has to cling to the edge of the building…
Will Terese survive?
Some fans think she will – but that another familiar face could be in the firing line instead.
Taking to Twitter, one theorised: "I really hope that Paul saves Terese from Harlow but Glen is behind him, and he throws Paul off the ledge and have Paul clinging for dear life as the cliffhanger for #Neighbours!"
Harlow’s serial killer roots
Harlow’s gradual journey to the dark side could be taking an even more sinister turn – as it isn’t just Paul’s bad influence fans have to keep an eye on.
After it was revealed that Harlow has secretly been visiting her serial killer father Robert in prison, the teen could soon fall under his treacherous spell.
One fan wrote on Twitter: "She’s a Robinson and her father is a serial killer! Why are you surprised about Harlow?”
Another pointed out the similarities between Leo, Harlow and Robert – and suggested they could all draw inspiration from each other, as they penned: "I really hope we get more Leo/Harlow scenes. Leo has always reminded me so much of Robert (minus all the murder of course) which in itself makes their relationship interesting.
"It would be nice to see Neighbours actually develop and explore their family dynamic."
While a third agreed: "I have indeed noticed a change in Harlow’s behaviour lately!"
Nicolette villain arc
With tensions high between Nicolette, Chloe, David and Aaron, it’s no surprise that Nicolette would resort to desperate measures like fleeing Ramsay Street and selling a baby to Paul for 1million dollars.
But some fans reckon she could go a step further and undergo a complete villain arc.
One Reddit user wrote: "I really wish they had made Nicolette truly evil.
"I wanted her to have killed Mrs Mangel, to have killed the guy she was caring for and stealing the scratch card… make her a true angel of death.
"They could have carried that on as a subplot for years, allowing the character to mix freely but with dark secrets. That would have been a very easy out for them if/when Charlotte’s time on the show comes to an end.
"I know it isn’t normal to have a regular character be properly evil (even Paul just plays at being evil) but it could have been so much better."
But it’s never to late to change…
It comes as a schedule shake-up has been announced for UK viewers, with Neighbours airing episodes in the UK before they hit Aussie screens.
The new move will start from January 2022.
It was originally four weeks behind, but when Australian network Peach cut the number of weekly episodes down, the UK began to catch up.
And now Australia is set to fall behind the UK schedule, which returns on January 3.
