Amazon Prime Video recently confirmed it had given Mirzapur season three the go-ahead. The second season only dropped in October, but viewers have swiftly binged the new series, making it the most-watched show on the streaming platform in India. Fans are now furiously speculating about what could come next – Express.co.uk caught up with Beena Tripathi star Rasika Dugal about all things Mirzapur.

Will Kaleen Bhaiya kill Beena Tripathi?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur seasons 1 and 2

Season three of Mirzapur is likely to have a high casualty rate with more major characters getting the chop.

Viewers are likely to be wondering who could be next after season one saw the heart-breaking deaths of Bablu Pandit (played by Vikrant Massey) and Sweety Gupta (Shriya Pilgaonkar).

The second series also saw some major characters bumped off including Bauji Tripathi (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and Munna (Divyenndu).

Series three could see many characters meeting their maker including Beena, who betrayed her own family to allow Guddu to take the throne of Mirzapur.

She also killed Bauji with Maqbool Khan (Shaji Chaudhary) taking the fall and fleeing from the scene.

Beena believed Guddu and Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) had killed off her husband Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) after he mysteriously vanished at the end of the series.

But fans saw Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) had kidnapped the fallen kingpin and was taking him away with viewers in the dark about his motives for the abduction.

Season three is likely to see Kaleen Bhaiya make a shocking return, which could have consequences for Beena and even seal hear death. Is actress Dugal concerned about Beena meeting a tragic end?

She said: “I’m not worried about a character being killed because I feel like if they’ve had their time in the story then it’s probably best for them to leave.

“I’m never greedy about carrying on to another season if I feel like the character has lived their bit in the story.

“And I think [Mirzapur writers] Puneet [Krishna] and Vineet [Krishna] are very brave in doing that.

“For example, they killed off Munna Bhaiya. He was the most-loved character of Mirzapur and I think that is really a mark of good writing and brave writing that you don’t feel attached to your character so much that you feel the need to carry them forward well after they’ve lived their time.

“I think those are very difficult decisions for writers and directors and so far, I think the writers of Mirzapur have been very brave in their choices.”

She went on to say: “If they chose to do something like that to Beena in another season, I would totally respect that and respect that decision.”

For now, it looks like fans will have to wait and see what the writers of Mirzapur have in store.

There was nearly a two-year wait for season two and depending on the coronavirus infection rates in India, there could be another delay on the third series.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic rocking the film and television industry to its core the world over, 2020 has been a strong year for Dugal.

Not only did she reprise her role in Mirzapur but she also starred in the BBC and Netflix adaptation of the expansive Vikram Seth novel A Suitable Boy. She also starred in the movie Lootcase.

Dugal is currently working on the second series of Out of Love, an Indian remake of the British BAFTA-winning series Doctor Foster in which she plays the equivalent of Suranne Jones’ scorned wife Gemma Foster.

Dugal explained: “So, right now I’m in the hills shooting. I’ve already been shooting for about 15 days and I have another 30 to go.

“But I’m happy to be out of Bombay. I’m happy to be in a space in which I can breathe and feel safer and really sink my teeth into another part. Right now, I’m totally relishing that.”
