Chandelier has become the first character to be given the boot from The Masked Singer UK series three.

The wacky ITV guessing game show returned to our screens on Saturday night.

Mushroom, Robobunny, Doughnuts, Chandelier, Lion fish and Firework all took to the stage for the first time.

The six characters sung their hearts out in three head-to-head rounds in a bid to impress the studio audience and judges.

Celebrity detectives Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan had to guess which famous faces were behind the costumes.

Mushroom went head-to-face against Robobunny, Doughnut took on Chandelier and Lionfish battled Firework for a place in the next round.

After six show-stopping performances, host Joel Dommett announced the names of the contestants in danger of being axed.

Mo, Davina, Rita and Jonathan were later forced to decide which character to send home.

The foursome later had to send home either Mushroom, Chandelier and Firework, and it was Chandelier who was unmasked.

It was then revealed that Heather Small was inside the Chandelier costume.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to share their verdict on the latest famous face to be unmasked.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "We’ll that’s a pity Heather Small didn’t use her own voice! The legend would still be in it."

Another added: "Heather Small has just been knocked out of a singing competition by a doughnut that sounds like an out-of tune Michael Owen. Happy New Year!"

A third person posted: "HEATHER SMALL IS CHANDELIER????? NO WAY"

While a fourth social media user said: "When I tell you I am such a Heather Small fan girl I’m not exaggerating, we stan. Would have loved to have heard more from her on #TheMaskedSinger"

Speaking previously about the new series, Davina teased that the panel has two very personal connections to this year's hopefuls – with Rita very close to one of the contestants – leaving them both shocked when they got it wrong.

She said: "What might be a massive name for Mo might not be a massive name for me and vice versa.

"There's a big name for me, there's a big name for Mo. He couldn't believe it. There was someone I know, that was quite weird."

While Joel added: "Someone Rita knows quite personally.

"No [she did not guess it], absolutely not, it was a huge shock. It was brilliant."

Pop star Rita also admitted this series is the hardest of the three.

"I think this series is the hardest because people are catching onto what our strong points are," she said.

"I always listen to the voice, Jonathan and Mo are so strong on the comedy side of things, Davina knows everyone! It’s hard for me now because they’re adjusting their accents and their singing voices which is what I always rely on."

The Masked Singer continues Sunday on ITV at 7pm
