”He’s like a shark that’s not gone, just gone out to sea,“ said ”Real Time“ host of Trump and his ambitions to return to the White House
Maher pointed out GOP reps Liz Cheney and Anthony Gonzales as two Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment and have already rendered powerless in the party. He also pointed out how Republican-led legislators are passing restrictive voting laws in several states — laws that negatively impact young and minority voters.
Maher then laid out the rest of the scenario: Republicans will regain the House in the 2022 midterm elections, swing states with Democratic governors in 2020 will be replaced by GOP ones in 2022, and in 2023 Trump will announce his bid for re-election on a platform that sows division and even violence.
It wouldn’t matter who the Democratic nominee would be; the GOP would frame him (i.e. Biden) or her (i.e. Harris or Klobuchar) as “the leader of the army of Satan.”
The nightmare scenario would end with a half-million armed Trump voters storming the Capitol, a redux of what happened on Jan. 6.
“I hope I scared the s— out of you,” Maher ended the segment, leading viewers to ponder what America’s future may hold.
