Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) returned to Earth to pay Chloe Decker (Lauren German) a much needed visit in the latest instalment of the fantasy drama series.
Unfortunately, the loved up pair weren’t banking on Lucifer’s devious twin brother Michael unleashing his plan to disgrace the devil and send him back to hell.
Their head-to-head came to an epic conclusion in the midseason finale, but their showdown in the LAPD was interrupted by the long-awaited arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert).
Now the literal Ruler of All Creation has finally made his entrance, fans are hoping Lucifer’s Dad can clear up a number of mysteries left unsolved throughout the series.
Most pressing is the true purpose of Chloe Decker’s charmed birth, who was born to her previously infertile mother thanks to a visit from Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside).
It still isn’t clear why Amenadiel decided to bestow Penelope Decker with a blessed child.
Indeed, in the latest season, Chloe was understandably distressed by the idea her whole purpose could have been to provide a ‘gift’ for Lucifer when they eventually crossed paths.
While Lucifer and Chloe’s destinies are almost certainly entangled, the series still hasn’t revealed the true significance behind the detective’s birth.
Originally saved by Netflix after being cancelled by Fox, fans were anticipating Lucifer to come to an end after the latest season.
This means the upcoming eight episodes could feature some major reveals, as showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson were previously anticipating season five would be the show’s last hurrah.
Thankfully, earlier this year Netflix announced the show would continue, and Lucifer will now end after its sixth season.
With a season and a half still in the pipeline, it’s now unsure whether God’s masterplan will be unveiled when part two is finally released to the streaming service.

As the hiatus between new instalments continues, fans have been discussing all to come in the last eight episodes of season five and may have hit upon a convincing theory.
Over on Reddit, one viewer proposed: “Would it be possible for Lucifer to have wished Chloe into existence?”
At the start of the very first season, Lucifer’s relationship with his father is worse than ever, and God is still refusing to answer his desperate prayers for help.
However, after one last cry into the void, Lucifer swiftly runs into Chloe Decker, and the rest is history.
This fan is convinced Lucifer’s loneliness on Earth indirectly caused his almighty father to create Chloe and eventually draw the pair together.
They continued: “During this [episode four] we see Maze and Lucifer in a more intimate version of their relationship.
“Lucifer is also working with a detective, who has a wife he’s in love with. Lucifer may see what’s missing from his life through their love and knows he can never have it.
“God seeing his son doing good work with a detective and wanting to gift happiness to his son, he grants his wish by creating Chloe without him knowing- planting the seed for when the stars align.”
The noir episode in season five explored Lucifer’s shady past for the first time, so it could still be packed with as yet unrevealed clues to what could be revealed in the rest of the season.
Lucifer Season 5, Part 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
