In a 2019 interview, Prince Andrew denied claims that he could not have sexually assaulted then-teenager Virginia Giuffre Roberts because he’d been dining at Pizza Express on the night in question. He vehemently denies the allegations. An eyewitness has recently spoken out to back up Virginia’s claims and said they saw the Duke of York with the 17-year-old on the night in 2001. Discussing this on ITV’s Lorraine, the 61-year-old host questioned why nobody from the restaurant had spoken to back up Prince Andrew’s claims.

Speaking to royal editor Russell Myers, Lorraine remarked: “The whole thing about Pizza Express in Woking – I just wonder, wouldn’t you have thought that maybe the waiter serving them or people in there – you would say it wouldn’t you?

“‘I saw Prince Andrew in Pizza Express’, I mean it’s quite an unusual thing.”

“Yeah, very much so,” Russell replied. “And I think that we are expecting more people, or you would have expected more people to potentially come out and say ‘I did see Prince Andrew in Pizza Express.

“He said himself it was a very strange thing for him to do.”

The royal expert continued: “And one may wonder, if a member of the royal family did walk into a pizza restaurant then they would have remembered, so.

“We still don’t know what’s going to happen in this civil case he was served just over a week and a half ago on these papers.

“So he’s got 21 days, or his lawyers have, to respond to these allegations, so it’s very much a case of waiting and seeing what happens.

“Certainly there will be a lot of people both sides of the Atlantic and around the world waiting to see what does happen.”

Taking to Twitter, viewer Jaymill commented: “Lorraine’s shady appeal asking for those who were at Pizza Express @reallorraine @lorraine #Lorraine.” The viewer used the colloquial term to suggest the TV host was making thinly veiled insults at Prince Andrew’s story.

Joe Bloggs Jnr added: “You’d think more people would’ve noticed Prince Andrew in a crowded nightclub #lorraine.”

“Day has started normally. Lorraine on my TV insistent that you’d remember if you’d seen Prince Andrew in Pizza Express,” penned Lynds.

She added: “I think she’s right. I saw Tony Wilson in Croma. Still remember that.”

WokeTeeNoodles replied to the comment to agree, stating: “I saw Victoria Beckham in Hamleys about 24 years ago. Well, the back of her head and the crowd around her, but still…”

They added: “And they’re relative unknowns compared to a frickin prince of England. People would remember.”

Prince Andrew has strongly denied claims made against him.

During the interview in 2019, he said: “I was with the children and I’d taken Beatrice to a Pizza Express in Woking for a party at I suppose four or five in the afternoon.”

Virginia was a victim of Jeffrey Epstein, and the Duke of York has come under fire for reportedly having close connections to the convicted sex offender.

The case brought against Prince Andrew is a civil case and he has continued to deny all claims.

Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am.
