Line of Duty’s DS Chris Lomax ‘accidentally’ admitted he’s OCG in episode six

Eagle-eyed Line of Duty fans once again got out their magnifying glasses and donned their deerstalkers to hunt for clues when the latest episode dropped.

And viewers of the BBC crime drama are certain they’ve uncovered a vital link between Detective Sergeant Chris Lomax and criminal organisation OCG (Organised Crime Group).

Chris, portrayed by Perry Fitzpatrick, hasn’t been able to escape suspicion throughout series six, and now he’s being freshly accused of being a bent copper.

As Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) ventured out to the industrial unit to check up on the investigation into journalist Gail Vella’s murder, one Reddit user shared an incredibly incriminating theory.

"During the telephone call Chris Lomax was on before Steve and Kate approached him at the industrial unit, Chris finished the [call] by saying ‘meet you at the Red Lion at 8pm’," they wrote.

"Isn’t this the same pub Carl Banks boasted about the murder of Gail Vella before he was killed? Might be an OCG meeting ground."

Someone else seemed to agree with the conspiracy theorist, posting: "This could actually be really, really key.

"The Red Lion comment coupled with the reaction from Steve and the fact that Steve was told that the night of the incident at the pub, there was actually more people involved than he originally thought."

While Chris didn’t actually talk on the phone, he did have a conversation with someone on the forensics team and mentioned the Red Lion.

Showrunner Jed Mercurio enjoys leaving Easter eggs and hints hidden deep in the plot of Line of Duty, and no line is chosen without intent and forethought.

And if the pub is a breeding ground for the OCG, Chris might be more wrapped up in criminal activity than we first suspected.

Someone did point out that The Red Lion is "the most common pub name in the UK", but later added: "On the other hand, Jed could’ve picked any other name for this line."

Chris came under fire earlier in the series as his mugshot was spotted on the notice board at AC-12 headquarters, after Chloe Bishop (Shalom Brune-Franklin) revealed a snapshot of the gang members involved in Lawrence Christopher’s death.

Fans are convinced he could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Rumours are flying ahead of the series six finale, with some show moments branded as clues and others as red herrings.

Viewers are convinced Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) could actually be H, as she was seen tapping out the letter in Morse code during the series’ longest ever interview scene.

But Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) isn’t above suspicion, as he misspelled "definitely" – just as the anonymous user talking to Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) did.
