Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) has been away from Weatherfield recovering in a rehab centre in Coronation Street after she was caught up in the Christmas Day shootings and awoke from her coma in hospital with memory loss.
In reality, actress Julia Goulding has taken time off work on maternity leave but we haven’t seen Shona for a while after she told husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) she didn’t want to see him anymore.
As Shona gets set to return to the cobbles soon, how she will cope? Also, just how will her return affect David after he recently slept with Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu)?
Will David be there for Shona?
David has had moments where he’s struggled to care for Max (Harry McDermott) and Lily (Brooke Malonie) and manage daily living all at the same time without Shona, so when she does return, will David be there for her as she continues her recovery? With everything that’s already happened, putting even more pressure on David to look after Shona as well would be a big ask. Could David cope with it all?
Will Shona move back in with the Platts?
Even though Shona recently asked David for a divorce, when and if she eventually returns to the street, she could move back in with the Platt’s in an attempt to help her remember what life was like before her accident. If she does, it would certainly be difficult for David to look after her despite Shona not wanting to be with him, but will he understand how unwell she is and put that all aside?
Will Shona want David to look after her?
We of course have no idea how Shona will react if she returns to Weatherfield. She could be grateful for the Platts — and the care that they show her — but on the other hand, she could also completely refuse for David and his family to help her start her life again. If Shona doesn’t want David to look after her, who will? And who will be strong enough to care for Shona after everything she’s been through?
Will David be able to cope?
David has been through an awful lot since Shona was shot at Christmas but so far for the sake of his children, he has been able to cope with some help from his family. We saw David mask his devastation after learning that Shona wants a divorce and told Maria (Samia Longchambon) that he was done with her, and then slept with Alina not long after.
When Shona returns, could David struggle to cope with the guilt of sleeping with someone else despite still being married and therefore leave Shona to be looked after by someone else?
Clayton manipulates Shona
The last time we saw Shona’s son Clayton (Callum Harrison) he kidnapped Shona after escaping from prison and threatened to kill her unless the police met his demands. Fully aware of Clayton’s true nature, we also know that David told Nick (Ben Price) and Gail (Helen Worth) that Clayton has been dripping poison into Shona’s ear.
If Clayton is set on manipulating Shona into keeping David away from her, just how far could it go? Is Clayton smart enough to turn Shona away from all of the Platts?
David puts Shona in danger
David will no doubt insist he’s fine with the fact that Shona doesn’t want to be with him, but as upcoming episodes will see him get into trouble with a group of muggers, could this be hinting at more danger for David?
If he’s unable to cope with caring for Shona and fails to keep on top of everything else, will David put her in danger? And if he does, how will that affect Shona’s recovery progress?
Coronation Street continues Monday 23 March at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
