EastEnders star Charlie Brooks has teased that her character Janine Butcher might kill again.

The actress, who recently returned to Albert Square after seven years away, joined Jermaine Jenas and Angela Scanlon on tonight’s episode of The One Show where she weighed in on whether there will be casualties from the recent fire.

It comes after Janine was seen stepping over Steve McFadden’s Phil Mitchell in scenes that aired on Friday.

‘Is her murder count about to go up, Charlie?’ Angela probed.

‘None of them were really her fault,’ Charlie giggled, referring to the three characters she’s seen off over the years.

‘I don’t know because I don’t know if I think Janine is an intentional killer,’ she continued. ‘I will defend her until the day that she dies. There have been mishaps.’

Since her arrival to Walford in 1989, Janine has murdered Barry Evans, Danielle Jones and Michael Moon.

She also attempted to kill Ryan Malloy and David Wicks.

Talking about the moment she accidentally pushed her on-screen husband Barry off a cliff, she said: ‘It was the instant sort of repulsion, she was smothered, so he just went over.’

Janine returned to EastEnders earlier this month where she was seen posing as a doctor, tricking the unsuspecting Zack Hudson (James Farrar).

She introduced herself as Judith Bernstein, telling Zack ‘here I am’.

‘Meter’s running,’ Janine added. ‘Give me your worst.’

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
