Dragons' Den signs up youngest dragon EVER – here's everything you need to know about Steven Bartlett

DRAGONS' Den has signed up its youngest dragon EVER – 28-year-old Steven Bartlett.

Steven will take the place of Vitabiotics CEO Tej Lalvani, who revealed he would be leaving the BBC show after four years in January.

Steven is the CEO of social media marketing agency The Social Chain, a company which he originally set up in his bedroom in Manchester.

He will join fellow Dragons Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman and Sara Davies in the Den.

The show's youngest ever Dragon will be part of series 19, which begins filming in the summer.

Steven, whose company has a current market valuation of £300 million, said: "It’s a tremendous honour to join the Den, hopefully representing a new generation of entrepreneurs, inspiring young and specifically under-represented entrepreneurs to follow in my footsteps."

He added that he had watched Dragons' Den since he was 12 and that it was "my first window into the real world of business and investing."

Steven developed his companies, The Social Chain and Media Chain after he dropped out of university at the age of 22.

He took the firm public five years later before leaving to pursue other investment opportunities six years after he set it up.

He also released a book this year called Happy Sexy Millionaire and hosts a podcast called The Diary Of A CEO.

Sarah Clay, commissioning editor for entertainment at the BBC, said: "As well as being our youngest ever Dragon, Steven’s unique approach to business will bring a whole new dynamic to the Den.

"He brings a wealth of experience from the social media, technological and brand building worlds. I’m so excited to see him in the next series."

Chi Ukairo, executive producer of Dragons’ Den at BBC Studios, added: "Steven is a great addition to the Den and we are all looking forward to seeing him in action when we start filming this summer."

Dragons' Den airs on Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One.
