On Saturday, the BBC Breakfast host took to the dance floor with his partner Nadiya Bychkova where they performed the Paso Doble dressed as gladiators. Despite admitting to struggling with his hosting duties and rehearsals, Dan and Nadiya managed to earn a high score from the judges and sailed through to next week’s show. Speaking with his co-host Sally Nugent on Monday’s BBC Breakfast, Dan explained the Strictly bosses asked him to wear a muscle suit for his routine but he refused.

Discussing his routine, Dan explained: “I was asked at the weekend as I was dressed as a gladiator.

“The lovely wardrobe team brought in a muscle suit.”

“They said ‘We thought you might want to wear this,’” Dan laughed as Sally let out a gasp as they showed a snap of the presenter wearing the muscle suit.

“Which I tried on, I was trying to be nice and be friendly.”

He joked: “I am wearing it this morning under the suit.”

“Why did they do that to you?” Sally asked as Dan replied: “I don’t know.”

“I turned it down,” he added. “I said you’ve got to use what mama gave me.”

“And that is what you did,” Sally continued as Dan burst out laughing.
