Coronation Street's Kimberly Hart-Simpson leaves soap after four months

Coronation Street’s Kimberly Hart-Simpson (Nicky Wheatley) has left the soap after just four months, with her final scenes airing last month.

The actress arrived on the cobbles in June, and was seen departing last month when Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) stole from Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) to help Nicky pay off her debts so as she could enjoy a new life with her daughter.

It turns out Nicky’s goodbye was for a little longer than viewers might have expected.

A source told The Sun Online: ‘Nicky’s proved really popular with viewers and the bosses absolutely love Kimberly.

‘The character has gone off for the storyline to develop but the door is very much open for her return.’

The site reported, however, that Nicky’s potential return would come in the new year, so she will not be a part of the soap’s 60th anniversary celebration.

Kimberly, 33, has been open in the past about how landing a role on Corrie was a dream come true for her, with her previously admitting she burst into tears when she found out she’d got the job.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Kimberly told host Lorraine Kelly that she still remembers the phone call confirming her audition had finally been a success.

She joked: ‘Lorraine, you saying I was born to be on Corrie is absolutely up there as one of my best moments. I remember getting the job, I got the call and I was in a basement and I fell to the floor… I was crying.’

Speaking about her first day on set, the soap star said: ‘It’s been 10 years in the making, the first day was so weird, I was quite calm.

‘You’re around legends, but I felt quite like I belong [here].’
