Ant Middleton has called Channel 4 "reckless and desperate" after they axed him from SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The 40 year old was announced to have parted ways with the channel on Monday, with him now claiming he only found out about the news when they released a statement to the public.

A spokesperson for the network said: "Ant Middleton will not be taking part in future series of SAS: Who Dares Wins.

"Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again."

Ant has now given his first interview on the matter, speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain.

He fumed: "Channel 4's statement is very reckless and desperate. Especially backed by excuses like the BLM tweet.

"The tweet was a year ago and settled that three or four months later. I didn't work it correctly and I acknowledged that.

"A couple months later I filmed two more series. It is all smoke and mirrors. It became a scripted show. Control was taken from me.

"I wanted to part with a healthy way. They knew I was going and all of a sudden they dropped this bomb of BLM and that I've been axed. They knew I was going, they got in there before me."

He broke his silence shortly after the news was announced on Monday, writing to his 324,000 Twitter followers: "After 5 incredible years I've decided it’s time to move on from SAS Who Dares Wins UK.

"Big respect to my fellow DS – it's been a journey I'll never forget.

"Thanks to everyone that took part and made the show what it is. Really excited about the future and what's coming this year."

Ant is known for being a controversial figure, and apologised last June after calling the Black Lives Matter movement "absolute scum".

He said at the time: "The extreme left against the extreme right. When did two wrongs make a right.

"It was only a matter of time. BLM and EDL are not welcome on our streets, absolute scum. What a great example you are to your future generation. Bravo."

He later backtracked: "I made comments about the violence breaking out across our streets. While I remain dismayed at these actions, I am horrified to realise that my wording could be misconstrued.

"I did not mean to say that BLM are scum, or to imply that BLM and the EDL are equivalent. I was trying to make a comment about violent protestors of any kind who I despise.

"I accept that my tweet was inappropriate and offensive and would like to apologise unconditionally. I am anti-racist, anti-hate and anti-violence."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
