Laura Hamilton and fellow Channel 4 property expert Ben Hillman were the two tasked with finding house-hunter Emma her dream house – either in France or West Sussex, UK. Emma and her daughter Grace were open to properties both home and abroad and it was Laura’s responsibility to try and find a UK property within Emma’s budget of £320,000. However, when the A Place in the Sun host showed a house in Haywards Heath, she wasn’t met with the desired reaction.
Laura had a three-bedroom house up her sleeve to try and sweep teacher Emma off her feet this afternoon.
Based in Haywards Heath, Emma was looking for a new home for herself and her children to enjoy – particularly with Grace in tow adding her thoughts.
However, it’s fair to say Emma wasn’t pleased with the A Place in the Sun host’s second option, ruling it out from the get-go.
As they arrived at the house in Haywards Heath, Emma dealt a cruel blow to Laura’s hopes, telling her: “I’m really disappointed actually.”
Surprised by the opposition, Laura wanted to know why exactly Emma appeared to rule the property out without even entering it.
“It’s not doing it for me at all,” she admitted. “The outlook, the vista, there’s no view – doesn’t feel green or rural to me.”
Laura told Channel 4 viewers she felt like she’d received a telling off from the Deputy Head Teacher.
Laura hoped exploring inside may change Emma’s mind – but it wasn’t to be.
Laura showed off the stylish kitchen the home had to offer but Emma remained unmoved.
Grace seemed to like the room and its facilities, while Emma had a much more scathing outlook.
“I’m not up for it,” Emma told Laura. “It’s a no already.
“It’s not for us, its the location – that’s a massive no-no.”

However, Laura did manage to win Emma over with her final property in a nearby village.
This left Emma with one contender in the UK before heading off to France to meet with Ben.
But Laura was dealt more bad news as Emma had decided to rule out all of her UK-based options by the time she’d touched down in France.
This left all of Emma’s hopes of finding her dream home on Ben’s shoulders – a task he seemed more than up for.
Ben hit the ground running, as both Emma and Grace unanimously agreed the first three-bedroom house he had to offer was a contender.
Despite it needing a bit of work done to it, the location was ideal for cycling enthusiast Emma for its countryside routes.
And Ben continued to impress, with all of his properties blowing Laura’s out of the water.
Emma eventually ended up bagging one of Ben’s options for £80,000 in France.
A Place in the Sun continues weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
