As the rest of his teammates celebrated in the confetti Sunday night at Super Bowl 2020, Chiefs running back Damien Williams headed toward the losing locker room.
Williams found 49ers running back Raheem Mostert in the tunnel and embraced his counterpart before the two swapped jerseys, as captured in a video by For The Win.
Williams’ Chiefs beat Mostert’s 49ers, 31-20, but the pair of underdogs were briefly teammates on the Dolphins in 2015 — Mostert on the practice squad until he was cut — before coming back to Miami on the biggest stage of all Sunday.
After Mostert exploded for 220 yards and four touchdowns in the NFC Championship, it was Williams who stole the show Sunday, taking 17 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown and adding four catches for 29 yards and another touchdown.
“Raheem is a competitive person and I’m a competitive person,” Williams said during the week, per NFL.com. “There was a time we both were looking at our situations like we want to be starters, you know what I’m saying? In our minds, there was never a doubt that either of us could be that guy. We just needed a chance.”
