Jose Mourinho has highlighted the difficulty taking over a club midway through the season having experienced the same problems while at Porto.
He said: “It is the second time I get a team mid-season, it’s just the second time for me.The first time was also not easy because it was the end of a team, the end of an era.
“It was an era without titles. Porto were not winning but it was the end of – I don’t want to say of a generation but it was the end of a team in the end of a season. Twelve players out, 12 players in, start everything from the beginning. Forget the good things of the past, forget the bad things of the past and let’s build from new.
“That is my experience in Porto coming in the middle of the season, so I suppose that if you are asking about Eriksen, Eriksen, Eriksen, Eriksen do you want to compare [Christian] Eriksen’s situation four years ago then Eriksen’s situation now? It’s easy to compare. Four years ago he had four years of contract and now he has six months of contract. The situation is very, very, very difficult.”
Jack Clarke is likely to complete his loan switch to QPR today.
The England Under-20 starlet joined Tottenham from Leeds in the summer for £10million before immediately returning to Elland Road on loan.
But the switch did not work out with Clarke making only three appearances for Marcelo Bielsa's side.
Spurs recalled him and will now send him across London to Mark Warburton's Rangers – as they are keen to keep the 19-year-old in the capital.
Here's the stats for the Spurs squad after 22 games played.
RACE TO MARS
Arsenal have joined Manchester United and Spurs in the race for Marseille wonderkid Isaac Lihadji.
The 17-year-old French winger is attracting interest from around Europe, and he could be available for nothing come the summer window as talks over a new deal have broken down.
French outlet La Provence claims a move away from the French giants is imminent.
Tottenham are also interested in the 17-year-old, who was born in Marseille and came up through the club's youth team.
