Sharing the awkward encounter online, Emily wrote: ‘So the gas man gave me his number today and I decided to text it and see what he would say.’

In the video, the gas man was seen sitting outside her house as the pai exchanged friendly texts, with Emily writing: ‘Hey Ed, thanks for giving me your number. And thanks for being sweet, Emily x’

‘No problem, you’re welcome. If you don’t mind me saying but you are gorgeous and I don’t understand how you’re not taken,’ replied Ed.

Emily thanked the stranger for his compliment, adding that she was shocked because she was in her pyjamas.

‘LOL well they were turning me on??’, he replied.

As Emily continued to watch from the window, she noticed that the man was not only still there but actively checking his texts to see if she’d replied.

As the conversation continued, the man wrote: ‘Your welcome, well like I said I’m on call this weekend. So if you have any problems give a shout and I’ll be the one coming??’

‘When she didn’t reply to him, he texted her again: ‘I can come back in as I’m just sat outside, waiting to finish before moving on to my next job. Rather that texting [each] other??’

The video gathered more than 40,000 likes and 1,000 comments, with several users shocked at the ‘inappropriate’ behaviour.

‘How did he see this as acceptable to just sit outside her house?’ wrote one.

‘I do this work. I would never dream of doing this. It’s totally unprofessional and crosses a line’, said another.

A third said: ‘That’s a bit scary tbh. If he was genuinely interested he would wait for the appropriate time to see you like on a date.’

While many users defended Emily, some questioned her motives behind texting him in the first place. Defending herself in an updated video she said: ‘At the end he came in said I had to sign something.

‘He gave me a piece of paper and said “if you ever need any help with your gas or anything give me a text.” I text it because I wanted to, he’s not a bad looking guy at all and I wanted to see what he would say.

Many users defended her from backlash saying she shouldn’t have text him in the first place, with one slamming the ‘victim blaming’ from some users in the comment section

‘I text the message and it didn’t take him long to turn it a bit weird, I thought it was strange about me turning him on in my pyjamas which I thought was really weird.’

‘She’s allowed to text him. Him then proceeding to sit outside her house and try and come back inside is the issue. That is not okay.’

Emily later revealed he had text her back apologising for any ‘offence’ caused by their previous conversation.
