William Shatner will rocket into space today, travelling on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket called New Shepard. The actor will blast off from the Texas desert with three other people. The 90-year-old has said he is looking forward to seeing the Earth from a new perspective.

Speaking about his journey into space, the Canadian star said: “I want to have vision, I want to see space.

“I want to see the Earth. I want to see what we need to do to save Earth. I want to have a perspective that hasn’t been shown to me before.”

The Star Trek actor’s trip to space is thought to last around 10 minutes.

How much is William worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the actor is worth an enormous £85million.

After graduating university in Canada, William joined the Canadian National Repertory Theatre to train as a classical Shakespearean actor.

Starting in 1954, he played a number of roles at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

That same year, he was cast as Ranger Bob on the Canadian Howdy Doody Show.

He then progressed onto films and made his debut in 1958 with The Brothers Karamazov.

From there, the actor landed a role on Alfred Hitchcock Presents in the episode called The Glass Eye.

However, William’s huge break came when he was cast as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, which ran from 1966 to 1960.

He reportedly earned £3,500 an episode for the first season.

In 1973 he returned to the role of Captain Kirk, which saw him voicing the animated series.

After its cancellation, Star Trek developed a cult following in the 1970s which saw Captain Kirk become an icon.

This saw William appearing at various different Star Trek conventions as well as leading him to other jobs.

In the 1980s, the star reprised the role of James T. Kirk in five Star Trek movies as well as beginning to direct his own film and television during this time.

In his personal life, William has been married four times, with his most recent divorce finalising last year.

He resides at his long-term home in Studio City, California.

Blue Origin, which made history in 2015 by successfully launching and landing a reusable rocket for the first time, is owned by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos.

How much is the businessman worth?

Jeff is currently one of the richest people in the world, with a staggering net worth of £140.7billion.

Founding Amazon in 1994 out of his garage, he stepped down as CEO to become executive chairman earlier this year.

When he and long-term wife MacKenzie divorced, she received 20million shares of Amazon and is now one of the richest women in the world.
