A resident was left cringing as their neighbour left a brutal note on their door about the noise level.

It seems the neighbour was so disturbed they felt like they had to make a unique suggestion to bring down the volume.

The awkward note came to light as a friend of the resident shared the exchange on Reddit, according to The Mirror.

The note read: "Dear neighbour. We hear everything! You know what I'm referring too… please be considerate.

"Maybe try a ball gag? Happy holidays!"

The note had many Reddit users giggling at the cringeworthy situation.

One user quipped: "Little did they know that your friend was just enthusiastically eating a bowl of spaghetti."

While another wrote: "I don't know…. I'd be pretty humiliated but it would make me quieten down."

A third asked: "Why pretend to be subtle by saying "you know what we're [referring] to" and then hamfist it with a comment about a ball gag?"

As a fourth chimed: "I never know which way to draw the line on these sorts of things."

They added: "On the one hand, no one has a right to complete and total silence at all times.

"You have to be able to tolerate some of the noises that other people make, reasonably.

"But when it comes to annoying sounds or sex sounds? I don’t know. Maybe we ought to tolerate that a little more as long as it isn’t too often?"

One noisy neighbour also added: "Oh dear. I had a neighbour years back come up to my door with a bag of oranges and asked me to please mind my fun times as he had work early every morning.

"It was horribly awkward and hilarious but I can tell ya, I was glad to mind our… romance noises for the week or two after that.

"I then had to break up with my partner, entirely unrelated to my neighbor speaking up, and I found a tiny bit of solace in knowing that my neighbor was probably thrilled at how excessively receptive I was to his request."

Eek, let's hope they're both kept happy in the future.
