P.J. Tucker isn’t letting the NBA lockdown get in the way of his style.
The Houston Rockets player, 35, made sure that he brought as many outfit options into the NBA bubble as physically possible, even going way beyond his allotted room assignment to accommodate all of his shoes.
Tucker told GQ that he brought 103 pairs of sneakers with him to Orlando — and is receiving shipments of more clothes and shoes on a daily basis. He paid extra for his own suite with two bedrooms and has the shoes laid out in the living room, confirming “the whole room is a walk-in closet.”
“It’s so funny because I have that many pairs, but when I’m getting dressed, I get anxiety because sometimes there’s something I want to wear and I’m like, ‘Oh s—t, I don’t have it,’” he said. “So I call my sister to be like, ‘Send me these right now.’ It happens everyday, and I have 100 pairs of shoes.”
Among the shoes that Tucker is missing are Air Max 1s — “They’re great for everyday,” he says — and a “bunch of [his] new Dunks” that he couldn’t find while packing. However, the player is having more and more clothes sent and is continuing to shop to fill his spare time.
Don’t expect the rest of P.J.’s outfits to slack just because the team isn’t traveling for games; the basketballer says he doesn’t even own a pair of team sweats, and he isn’t a fan of sandals.
While some may make fun of Tucker’s dedication to high fashion, he’s not putting on a show for anyone else: “My style is part of my lifestyle and part of my preparation to get ready to play in the game. It’s my preparation for life, I should say,” he concluded.
“Everyday I have to get dressed. I can’t just throw on something and walk out and say, ‘I’m not going to see anybody today.’ I see me.”
