A solar eclipse happens on a New Moon, as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and blocks out the Sun. This is why an eclipse is dark with a ring of light around the Moon. This eclipse marks the second and final eclipse of the season and it’s going to be powerful. Express.co.uk chatted to Moon Mentor and author of Lunar Living: Working with the Magic of the Moon Cycles, Kirsty Gallagher (@kirsty_gallagher_ on Instagram) to find out what’s in store for the solar eclipse on Thursday.
On Thursday, June 10 at 11.52am, the Gemini New Moon Solar Eclipse will arrive.
It is the final eclipse in eclipse season, following the Sagittarius Full Moon lunar eclipse a couple of weeks ago.
According to Kirsty, eclipse seasons are magical, powerful times of growth and change.
She said: “Eclipses tend to come along to reveal truths, bring things to your attention and help put you back on the right path, create endings and new beginnings.
“The energy of eclipses can often be quite deep and intense, but they are powerful portals for huge transformation and opportunities for growth.”
The most telling thing about a Moon phase is the sign it is in, as this reveals the themes being shone down on us.
Kirsty said: “The last New Moon in Taurus asked you to lay inner foundations, get rooted in what matters to you, who you are and what you desire, and then trust.
“Then along came the Sagittarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse to release anything not in alignment with your greatest expansion and truth and create the space for something new to come in.”
The Moon Mentor said this Gemini New Moon Solar Eclipse is all about moving forward.
She explained: “This eclipse will show you what this space has been created for and to bring the insight, information, knowledge and connections you need to know your way forwards.”
As mentioned, this eclipse is the second of the eclipse season.
Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses are all about banishing and making space, whereas New Moons and Solar Eclipses are about starting fresh and filling that space.
Kirsty said: “Phew, what a wild ride this eclipse gateway has been! Things now come to a culmination as this solar eclipse opens up the pathway for new beginnings into the second half of the year.”
The days leading up to the New Moon Solar Eclipse might not be very cheerful and you may feel a bit down or anxious.
Kirsty explained: “A solar eclipse happens on a New Moon when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking out the sun’s light.
“As this would suggest, an eclipse can bring with it a sense of darkness and coming face to face with your shadows, and you may feel this strongly in the Dark Moon phase running up to this eclipse.”
The Moon Mentor advises everyone to pay close attention to what they are feeling.
She said: “Look at why you are emotional, irrational, sad, and fearful about or where you are ruminating over the past, as this is showing you what needs a final closure or release.”
You don’t need to force yourself to feel sociable during the run-up to the eclipse, Kirsty said it’s great to take some to be still and spend some time alone in the “darkness”.
She added: “Allow it to reveal answers to you and then use these insights to move forwards.”
Answers are a huge part of what this New Moon is about, according to Kirsty.
She said: “The Moon is new in the communicative change-maker sign of Gemini and this is going to bring us all the inspiration, information, knowledge, know-how, connections and guidance you need on how to be able to now move forwards with your life.
“This Moon will give you all that you need to start over, start anew, and make a change.
“The Eclipse will show you how you stay in your comfort zone and all that is possible for you if you break free and expand.
“Once we reach the summer solstice we are going to be asked to consciously step through the doorway into something purposeful and expansive, something new.
“As we move into the second half of the year it’s time to shine.”
