Martin Lewis discussed the new Green Homes Grant Scheme on This Morning today with presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. It offers money for those looking to update their homes.
Viewer Emma asked: “I have recently heard about a new scheme for homeowners to make their home energy efficient called the ‘Green Homes Grant’.
“My question is: Is anybody eligible for this and would I be able to get a new boiler through this scheme?”
Martin told the viewer: “Everybody who is a homeowner is eligible, just about for it.
“Boilers won’t be included in it, double glazing is if you are replacing single glazing.
“It’s really complicated, it’s £5,000 of free home improvement grants available for virtually every household.”
About applying for the scheme, Martin said: “We won’t know the full application deal until the end of September.”
What is the Green Homes Grant Scheme?
The government website describes details of the new scheme.
It said: “The government will provide a voucher worth up to £5,000 or £10,000 to help cover the cost of making energy efficient improvements to your home.

“Improvements could include insulating your home to reduce your energy use or installing low-carbon heating to lower the amount of carbon dioxide your home produces.
“You must redeem the voucher and ensure improvements are completed by 31 March 2021.”
Who is eligible for the Green Homes Grant Scheme?
The government said: “To apply for the voucher, you must either:
“own your home (including park homeowners, long-leaseholders and shared ownership)
be a private or social landlord
“Your property must be in England to be eligible for the scheme.
“Landlords cannot apply for the low-income portion of the scheme.
“New-build properties that have not previously been occupied are not eligible for the scheme.
“You cannot apply for the scheme if you have already received a grant from your local authority as part of the Local Authority Delivery Scheme.”
Are a lot of things are covered by the scheme but certain things are not.
This includes building an extension on your home.
It also includes insulating a conservatory with no fixed heating and installing a new fossil fuel boiler, including gas.
Martin Lewis’s advice also recently detailed how Britons can earn hundreds of pounds extra a year with very little effort.
In his latest MoneySavingExpert.com Money Tips email, he explained all.
Martin said online survey sites can be a great way for Britons to share their opinions on various topics.
Martin said: “Your views on things from mask-wearing to Meghan and Harry can really get you a penny for your thoughts.
“It doesn’t require any special skill or talent, but some MoneySavers claim they’ve made £300 in a matter of months.”
The expert explained one savvy Britons earned £300 in just eight months by using surveys.
