We’re ready for a long, hot summer as Love Island 2021 is officially under way!

The show, which sees sexy singles attempt to find their perfect match, aired on Monday 28 June after much anticipation and there's already been drama and even a dumping!

In the first episode, we watched as the girls couple up with the boys as they all met for the first time.

Liberty Poole, Sharon Gaffka, Kaz Kamwi, Faye Winter and Shannon Singh cheered as the boys entered the villa and they all picked who they’d like to be coupled up with.

Couples were formed with the boys, but after Chloe Burrows entered the villa to stir things up, Shannon became the first victim of the show as Chloe chose to be with her partner Aaron Francis.

However, if there's one thing we've learnt from previous Love Island series, it's that the original couples very rarely stay as they are.

From having a look back at some of the past seasons, here's a peek at some of the bizarre first day couples, including Camilla Thurlow and Sam Gowland…

Season one

The first season saw Jess Hayes and Max Morley crowned champions, however they weren't a fixed couple from the start.

In fact, Jess and Max only coupled up on day 33 and prior to this Jess spent her first night with Jordan Ring.

Jess was also linked with Josh Ritchie and Omar Sultani in the villa but it was Max who swept her off her feet and into the final.

Season two

Despite ending up with Kady McDermott and having a relationship with her outside of the villa too, Scott Thomas was actually paired with former Miss Great Britain Zara Holland to begin with.

As soon as Kady entered the villa things changed, with the brunette beauty gaining Scott's attention.

Rykard and Olivia Buckland were another couple who didn't go the distance from season two, and Olivia even ended up meeting her future husband later in the series.

Olivia was even with Daniel at one point but Alex Bowen entered and saved the day.

Season three

Season three saw some interesting couples paired together in the first episode.

Winner of season three, Amber Davies, was initially coupled up with Harley who became the first of the show to be dumped.

Meanwhile, Kem coupled up with Chloe Crowhurst, but it wasn't long before Kem and Amber found their way to each other.

Season three also brought us Camilla Thurlow and Sam Gowland as a couple.

Camilla is now engaged to fellow contestant Jamie Jewitt and they've welcomed an adorable baby girl.

Montana Brown and Dom were another couple who matched at the start but went their separate ways shortly after.

Season four

Season four gave us Eyal Booker and Hayley Hughes who really didn't see eye to eye.

The couple shared a kiss but Eyal wasn't happy when Hayley then said it left her feeling "physically sick."

We then got the iconic line of "I'm not your hun, hun," after Hayley referred to Eyal as "hun."

Season five

Despite Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea securing the crown at the end of season five, the winner duo weren't always paired together.

In fact, Amber was initially paired with Callum, but it's safe to say that didn't last long.

Amy Hart and Anton Danyluk were also a match at the start – bet you'd forgotten that hadn't you!

Love Island continues at 9pm every day except Saturday on ITV2
