LeBron James displayed zero signs of slowing down in his age-35 season as he led the Los Angeles Lakers to their 17th NBA title in franchise history.
Even if he’s no longer winning MVP awards, James has proven that he’s still the best player in the NBA. At least, that’s what the makers of the NBA 2K21 believe.
The player ratings for NBA 2K21 were revealed on Thursday morning, and once again, James found himself ahead of everybody else. He is the highest rated player for NBA 2K21 at 98 overall.
Per Bleacher Report, this is the seventh time where James earned a 98 overall rating by the NBA 2K franchise (2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019). He peaked at 99 for NBA 2K14, and he’s earned a 97 five times.
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who won his second straight MVP award in 2019-20, is the second highest rated player at 97 overall. Behind James and Antetokounmpo are Anthony Davis – James’ Lakers teammate – and Houston Rockets All-Star James Harden at 96.
Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant share the fourth highest rating at 95. Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks, 94 overall), Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat, 93 overall), Kyrie Irving (Nets, 9o overall) and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics, 90 overall) are the only other players who are rated in the 90s.
In 67 regular season games, James averaged 25.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.2 assists per game. He was even better in the playoffs, averaging 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game. In just his second season with the Lakers, James won his fourth NBA Championship. He won it all with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013 and with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his hometown team, in 2016.
James turns 36 on Dec. 30, but as we saw in the postseason, he isn’t slowing down at all. The future Hall of Famer is still in his prime, and he has a very good shot of matching Michael Jordan’s six championship rings.
