Dad builds rope swing for kids – but big demo for the family goes hilariously wrong

Dad Rick Barnes fell flat on his face after falling off a rope swing he'd made for his kids.

The 36-year-old charity worker from Bradford spent hours building the play thing to keep his children entertained during lockdown.

But when he gathered wife Justine, son Ben, 13, and 5-year-old daughter Gracie to see it in action for the first time things didn't exactly go according to plan.

The good news for Rick though is that his fall has earned his family a £250 Very.co.uk spending spree, as part of the 'memorable imperfect moment' video competition from Very and us at Mirror Online.

The competition coincides with the launch of the new Very Big Family Survey, conducted by the Daily Mirror and Very.co.uk. The fascinating results include the impact of the lockdown on teenagers and the amount of reading youngsters are enjoying.

Embarrassed Rick told us: "I remember saying 'watch this kids' then next thing I knew I was on the floor and everybody was laughing.

"You could say it went entirely to plan: I was simply demonstrating the dangers of not being careful on a rope swing!"

Rick's son Ben caught the incident on camera and mum Justine submitted it to our Very competition.

Ben added: "It was literally the best moment ever, I nearly dropped the phone laughing!"

Congratulations to Rick for becoming our first winner of a £250 spending spree at Very.co.uk. Three more winning videos will be unveiled in the coming days so keep checking back on the site!
