Airing for 12 seasons, The Big Bang Theory originally started off as a series about a group of science nerds who meet a pretty young aspiring actress and waitress who moves into the apartment across the hall from two of them. Over the years, the group became good friends with the girl, Penny, and found love as well. Penny married Leonard, Sheldon met and married Amy, Howard married Bernadette and they had two kids together, and the others saw various relationships come and go (some more than others.)

What about in real life? In the series, the men and women are assumed to be in their 30s. In reality, some are actually much older than you might realize. Here’s a look at the ages and relationship statuses of the seven main characters and three supporting ones.
10 Jim Parsons (46, Married)
While Parsons has a youthful spirit and look about him, he isn’t nearly as young as you might think: this 46-year-old was born in 1973 and has been acting since the ‘90s. While he is most recognizable for playing Sheldon on this long-running sitcom, he has had some other notable roles of late as well, including in Hidden Figures, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and on Broadway in The Normal Heart.
On the show, Sheldon eventually wed his long-time girlfriend Amy. In real life, Parsons was rumored to have been in a relationship with his now husband Todd Spiewalk, an art director, since the early ‘00s. They officially wed in New York in 2017.
9 Johnny Galecki (44, In A Relationship)
Also in his 40s, Galecki was born in 1975, making him 44 today. He rose to fame for his role as Leonard on this series, but had notable roles prior, including in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Galecki and his co-star Kaley Cuoco dated for two years during the early seasons of the series and remained on good terms after their break-up. He is currently dating Alaina Meyer and the couple’s first child, a son, was born earlier this month.
8 Kaley Cuoco (34, Married)
One of the youngest of the bunch, Cuoco is 34, born in 1985. She is known most for this role as Penny but was also on another sitcom, 8 Simple Rules, a few years prior to snagging this life-changing role.

As noted, Cuoco dated Galecki for two years while they were both on the show. She married professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting in 2013 but they divorced a few years later. She is now married to Karl Cook, an equestrian and the son of billionaire Scott Cook. They got engaged at the end of 2017 and tied the knot last summer.
7 Simon Helberg (39, Married)
On the series, Helberg played Howard who was hopelessly in love with his wife Bernadette, also mother to his two children. In real life, he is also married to a woman named Jocelyn Towne. Married since 2007, they, like his character, have two children together, born in 2012 and 2014.
Helberg is best known for this role, though he has many other credits to his name, including appearing in the 2016 movie Florence Foster Jenkins, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Having just turned 39 in early December, this 1980-born actor will be entering a new decade next year.
6 Kunal Nayyar (38, Married)
Unlike his character Raj on the series, who was unlucky in love and couldn’t seem to find the right woman for him, Nayyar has already settled down and married a woman named Neha Kapur, a model, actress, and former Fermina Miss India. They wed in 2011.
The 38-year-old, born in 1981, hasn’t done much acting beyond The Big Bang Theory. But considering he and his former castmates all inked a deal for almost $1 million per episode in the show’s later seasons, he doesn’t really have to.
5 Melissa Rauch (39, Married)
This petite actor was born in 1980, making her 39 today. In addition to her role as Bernadette, Howard’s tiny yet feisty wife, Rauch has also appeared on series like True Blood and The Office, as well as in films like I Love You, Man, and has done voice work.

Unlike her character, her voice really isn’t that high-pitched. Rauch has been married since 2007 to her husband Winston Rauch, and together, they have one child, born at the end of 2017. Sadly, Rauch opened up about the couple’s previous miscarriage.
4 Mayim Bialik (43, Divorced)
The only one of the cast members who is actually a self-proclaimed nerd who understands much of the dialogue from the show, Bialik has been acting for decades, most notable for her prior role in the ‘90s sitcom Blossom.
At 43 and born in 1975, Bialik has a Ph.D in neuroscience. She got married to Michael Stone in 2003, but they divorced in 2012. They have two sons together, born in 2005 and 2008. She was dating someone after that but she revealed they had broken up last December. As of now, it appears she is officially single.
3 Kevin Sussman (49, Divorced)
Playing the awkward and depressed comic book store Stuart who so desperately wanted to be part of the group, Sussman is nothing like his on-screen character. You might also be surprised to learn that he is the oldest of the bunch: born in 1970, he just turned 49 which will make 2020 his big 50th year!
Sussman was married to Alessandra Young from 2006-2017, though being tight-lipped about his personal life, many fans didn’t even know he was married! According to his divorce documents, the couple had originally split in 2012.
2 John Ross Bowie (48, Married)
No, Bowie does not sound like his Elmer Fudd-like character Barry Kripke on the series: this is just a voice he put on for the show when he played Sheldon’s arch-nemesis at Caltech. The 48-year-old, who is best known for this supporting role as well as appearing in Speechless, was born in 1971.
Bowie married Jamie Denbo, a comedian, in 2004 and together, they have two children, a daughter and a son. Bowie himself is also a comedy performer who regularly performs at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCBT) in New York and Los Angeles.
1 Wil Wheaton (47, Married)
Appearing as an exaggerated version of himself on the series, one of Sheldon’s idols for having played Wesley Crusher on the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Wheaton later become Sheldon’s nemesis. Wheaton is 47 years old, born in 1972. In addition to his role on Star Trek, he’s also known for Stand by Me and Toy Soldiers.
When he was in his late 20s, Wheaton married Anne Prince and took on parenting responsibilities for her two sons from a previous relationship. When one of them turned 19, he asked Wheaton to legally adopt him.
