UNDERWIRE, who? We're rounding up the best wireless bras here that are gloriously comfy and will never result in painful digging in under your ribcage.
There are few things worse than an uncomfortable bra—and if you find yourself counting down the hours until you can take your underwired bra off, it's definitely time to try out the ease of something that's easy-wearing, fuss-free and most importantly, non-wired.
There's been a real shift over the past few years when it comes to women's bra shopping, with more of us abandoning traditional underwired bras in favour of softer structures and the more natural silhouettes that bralets and wireless bras offer. Goodbye scaffolding, hello comfort as nature intended.
So how about the benefits? Well, there's lots of discussion about how bras can potentially affect the lymphatic system which drains from the breast tissue and removes toxins. Many argue that bras, by applying pressure to the breasts, actually restrict the flow of this process and can cause damage over time. We're not here to say whether that's the case or not, but it definitely feels intuitive that any garment in general that feels less restrictive on our bodies—and doesn't pinch or squeeze the skin—can only be a good thing. Comfort over pain, people!
Whether you're looking for a plain but functional non-wired bra or something pretty and delicate, gone is the slightly stuffy and unsexy image you might have previously associated with wireless bras. There's a huge amount of choice these days, from seam-free shapes and eco fabrics, to colourful lace triangle bras and the silkiest of plunge bras.
We've rounded up some of the best wireless bras below that are super-comfy, look great and are available to shop now. Be warned though: once you go wireless, you may never want to go back…
1. Best eco choice: Boody's Organic Bamboo EcoWear Women's Shaper Bra
- (AD) Boody Organic Bamboo EcoWear Women's Shaper Bra, from £16.95 from Amazon – buy here
Eco brand, Boody, specialises in garments that are crafted from up to 95% organic bamboo: a sustainable alternative to cotton that is super-soft and has great moisture-wicking properties…which is something we'd imagine comes in handy for avoiding sweaty underboob. Yes, we went there.
Available in six shades including black, beige and dark olive, this body shapper bra is seamless and provides minimal support—so it's great for a really natural feel, rather than hoisting your boobs up to your armpit.
There's plenty of glowing reviews too, with one shopper commenting: "This is exactly what I needed: no pinch, no bulge, nothing itchy or rubbing, light weight, natural support and breathable."
2. Best classic wireless bra: Triumph's Delicate Doreen Non-Wired Everyday Bra
- (AD) Triumph Women's Delicate Doreen N Everyday Bra, from £16 from Amazon – buy here
Founded in 1886 as a corsetier, Triumph has been redefining underwear ever since and has an array of pretty wireless bras on offer.
The Doreen Everyday Bra is available in A-J fitting and has been a bestseller since its launch in 1966. Featuring a cut-in retro look, it's been updated with modern lace details and an elegant design that makes it a favourite among shoppers.
As one reviewer comments: "These bras are truly amazing. They are true to size, give support and look good", while another adds: "Gives a good bust shape under vintage clothes."
3. Best for feeling cute: Boux Avenue's Ivana Triangle Bra in Candy Pink
- Ivana triangle bra – Candy Pink, £28 from Boux Avenue – buy here
How pretty is Boux Avenue's Ivana bra?!
This gorgeous triangle bra comes in a choice of candy pink (our fave) or classic white, and proves once and for all that wireless bras can definitely have both function and style.
A great everyday choice, the Ivana features decorative strap detailing, lace cups plus it has no fastening—so it's easy to pop on in a hurry. Shoppers are really pleased with the quality of these bras too, with one saying: "Quality is there, the materials aren’t scratchy or feel cheap and most of all they look wonderful."
4. We tried: Heist Studio's The Invisible Scoop Bralette
- The Invisible Scoop Bralette, £38 from Heist Studios – buy here
One look at Heist's mission statement ("to liberate women from disappointing underwear") and it's hard not to get excited for the comfort that awaits.
Perhaps best known for their seamless, gusset-free tights, the brand's range of bralettes are designed with the same concept in mind: to forget you're even wearing one. That sounded pretty great to us, so we opted for the Invisible Scoop bralette, and promptly received our parcel which arrived in entirely recyclable packaging. An instant thumbs-up.
Onto the bralette itself, and we could tell instantly this was a fabric that would feel amazing on our skin and not irritate it at all. The simple scoop design is super-soft, wire and clasp-free and features thin adjustable straps. Available up to a size XL, we'd say the bralette is probably not suitable for all larger bra sizes, but check out the size guide to be sure.
Overall, while it was a little small for us, we loved the second-skin feel of the bralette and would definitely recommend this one if you're looking for something comfy with light support and a completely invisible and seam-free finish under clothing.
5. Best for a boost: M&S' Rosie Smoothing Padded Plunge Bra A-E
- ROSIE Smoothing Padded Plunge Bra A-E, £25 from M&S – buy here
Who said wireless bras—and M&S for that matter—couldn't be sexy?
The high street giant has got it very right with this padded plunge bra by Rosie Exclusively for M&S, which is available in sizes A-E.
Featuring signature rose gold hardware and a silky smooth finish with lace detailing on the back, the seamless fabric is ideal for wearing under something figure-hugging, while the padded non-wired cups provide an extra boost.
Shoppers are happy too, with one reviewer writing: "This bra works wonders under most outfits, and particularly those where you want your bra to remain invisible."
