Simon Cowell is reportedly recovering from five-hour surgery after ‘breaking his back’ in a biking accident.
The X Factor boss was said to be trying out his new toy at his home in Malibu, California on Saturday when he fell off and injured his back.
According to reports, the music-mogul ‘is doing ok’ after emergency surgery where he had a ‘metal rod put into his back’.
‘Simon had surgery overnight and is doing okay this morning. It was a five-hour surgery and he has had to have a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back,’ a source explained.
‘He landed on his back when he fell from the bike. The injuries are bad but he’s also been told he was lucky,’ they added to People.
A rep for the 60-year-old confirmed earlier today that Simon had fallen off his bike.
‘Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening,’ they said.
‘Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.’
They added to People: ‘He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.’
Simon has been based in California during the coronavirus pandemic with his partner, Lauren Silverman, their son Eric, six, and Lauren’s 14-year-old son Adam from a previous relationship.
However, he might not be there for long with reports claiming the TV star wants to sell his £18 million LA mansion for a ‘quieter life’ away from Hollywood’s hustle and bustle.
The star certainly won’t be compromising his five-star lifestyle if he does sell, with his Malibu beachfront property boasting seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms spread over 10,000 square feet.
He also owns two more homes in London worth around £25 million and a pad in New York City.
