Love Actually fans cant believe Keira Knightleys Juliet and schoolboy Sam were both teens

Every Love Actually fan has their favourite characters among the myriad of romantic leads. Among ours are Keira Knightley's new bride Juliet and Thomas Brodie-Sangster's grieving schoolboy Sam.

Yet despite watching the Christmas classic year after year, we had never realised that the two actors were both teenagers while filming the movie – and are in fact only five years apart in age.

Keira appeared to many to be much older than her years due to the simple fact her entire storyline involved marriage and a bittersweet case of unrequited romance with The Walking Dead actor Andrew Lincoln.

Born in 1985, Keira was the tender age of 18 when she filmed the hugely-popular Christmas movie, and her onscreen husband was played by now-44 year old Chiwetel Ejiofor.

He was eight years older than the star so would have been 26 when their marriage scenes were filmed.

Meanwhile youngster Sam was played by then-teenage Thomas – who was 13 at the time.

It's often been said that the The Queen's Gambit actor has a baby face compared to his actual age, and the star is 31 now.

The topic is discussed all over Twitter as fans are left completely bowled over by the revelation of the two star's similar ages.

“Yearly reminder that there is only a five year age gap between Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Keira Knightley in Love Actually,” one person posted next to an image of Keira and Thomas looking years apart in age.

“No f*****g way,” another declared, as a third exclaimed: “What the actual f***.”

“I SWEAR HE AINT HUMAN!” a fourth fan cried. “HE LOOKS LIKE A TODDLER AND KEIRA LOOKS LATE TEEN/EARLY 20’s.”

While a fifth Twitter user grumbled about the years passing, as many continue to be surprised Love Actually was released a whopping 18 years ago.

“I remember both of those years pretty clearly and feel ancient now, thanks,” they posted.

“We all know he's immortal, there's no doubt!” another fan joked about Thomas.

“HAD TO GOOGLE AND STILL DON'T BELIEVE EVEN THOUGH I KNOW IT'S TRUE,” another Twitter user added.

Others were left in shock from a revelation about Andrew Lincoln, who became famous for his character’s deeply romantic scenes during the movie.

The Teachers actor left all filmgoers melting from his beautifully selfless declaration of love to Juliet – which was delivered by a series of signs while stood outside his best friend and wife’s door.

But while Keira ran outside in the snow and gave him a big hug and a kiss cheek, it turns out Andrew was 30 at the time – 12 years older than the teenager his character was professing his love to.

“I never understood why she & her bf got married in that movie,” one fan commented on the odd casting choice of the trio. “She was so young. Wasn't pregnant. Didn't appear to be forced into it. Mad.”

“13 and 18. For reference Andrew Lincoln was 30 at the same time,” another person pointed out.

While fans continue to be bowled over by the age revelation every Christmas, it turns out there are even more behind the scenes secrets from the film.

Maze Runner star Thomas is actually related to his co-star Hugh Grant.

The actors didn’t actually have any dialogue during the movie, as Thomas was mostly involved in scenes with his screen dad Liam Neeson.

But the pair learned they are second cousins and actually share a great great grandmother, as their great grandmothers were sisters.

Speaking to The Telegraph about the unexpected discovery, Thomas said Hugh would call him “cousin” and “ruffle” his hair.
