Renowned record producer Martin Birch passed away on Sunday, August 9, at the age of 71. The cause of death has not been made public.
Birch, who retired from the business of producing music in 1992, has worked with some of metal’s biggest, genre-defining names, including Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, and Deep Purple, among others.
“It is with a very heavy heart I’ve just had verified my very dear friend & producer Martin Birch has passed away,” tweeted Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale.
He added, “Martin was a huge part of my life…helping me from the first time we met through until Slide It In…Mt thoughts & prayers to his family, friends & fans…”
Other previous collaborators as well as devoted fans to have offered condolences include Geezer Butler of Sabbath, Wendy Dio, Jay Ruston, Charlie Benante, and David Ellefson.
