There are plenty of musicians with signature, eye-catching looks. Taylor Swift has her fringe, Ariana Grande has her ponytail, and Post Malone has … his face tattoos. The rapper and singer, who exploded onto the scene thanks to a selection of singles with killer hooks, as per Billboard, lets everybody know he’s “always tired” by inscribing those words right underneath his heavy eye bags. Meanwhile, the phrase “stay away,” inked over his right eyebrow, ensures nobody gets close enough to cop a whiff of his legendary musk.
As Insider notes, when Post Malone first appeared back in 2015, he was actually tattoo-free. The musician’s body art collection, which numbers almost 70 and counting, runs the gamut from a Playboy bunny (whose healing was messed up by none other than Justin Bieber) to an upside-down sword inked with the intention of annoying his long-suffering mother. There are also portraits of celebrities as far-reaching as JFK and Kurt Cobain. But how different would Post Malone, so famous for his tattoos, look without them?
Post Malone's face tattoos make him more aesthetically interesting
Although his plethora of ink — particularly on his face — garners plenty of attention, Post Malone admitted in an interview with GQ that he covers up out of insecurity. “I’m a ugly-a** motherf*****r,” he said, noting, “I don’t like how I look, so I’m going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, ‘You look cool, kid,’ and have a modicum of self-confidence, when it comes to my appearance.” The “Sunflower” hit-maker doubled down while subsequently speaking to the publication, arguing, “I feel like the face tattoos make me interesting to look at.” Plus, again, his mom hates them.
Post Malone explained the designs don’t necessarily have a deep meaning — rather, the rapper (real name Austin Post) simply gets whatever he feels like at the time. The sword on his face, for example, was because “I’ve been into them since I was a little kid.” Committing to a new tattoo can take as little as two hours. As for how he looked without them, Post Malone acknowledged, “It’s interesting to look back at the photos from when I had no tattoos.” He added, “It’s just bizarre to see. It becomes such a part of you that you don’t even notice.” Judging by the photo above, he’d look surprisingly businesslike.
